WikiShed Model Tutorial

For those of you that are interested, the WikiShed as I'm calling it has a nice little YouTube video to go along with it. This video explains the differences between it and the regular Wikihouse designs.

I encourage you to check out the model and let me know what you think. If all goes well, I'll be building this thing before spring.

Wikihouse Project

So after the great time I had building a Wikihouse with the guys at Sketchup last year at Maker Faire, I've decided that I want to build one of my own... to live in.

Using Wikihouse's open library of components, I have begun work on designing my own house. I've started documenting all of my work here:

I've also been reaching out to local colleges to see if their architecture programs would be interested in participating in some way.

While I work on that design, I want to experiment with different types of plywood. OSB seems to be readily available, cheap, and easy to work with.

Before I go and cut an entire house out of plywood, I've decided to build something simpler: A shed.

To design this shed, I started out with one of the Wikihouse modules. Since I needed to resize it I ended up using their model as a guide, and I have drawn this entire model from scratch. I've re-worked many of the joints based on my experience of building one in NYC. You can download the model and take a look if you'd like.

Guess what we're building...

I'll let the pictures speak of the awesome that is about to take place at Maker Faire in New York City this weekend.

Starting tomorrow, myself, the Sketchup team, and folks from Wikihouse will be taking these parts (over 1100!!)

And we'll be turning them into this:

That's right, I will be assisting the Sketchup team in assembling this real life structure.  It's made out of over 160 sheets of 4x8 plywood, and over 1100 individual parts.  You can see a video of how it works here:
